You can get better peace of mind with the knowledge that someone is watching when you have a home security monitoring system in place as part of your overall home security strategy. Twenty four hours a day seven days a week professionals are keeping track of your systems status and numerous services are less than $10 a month.

While the majority of people with a home security system believe in local sounding alarms to frighten away would-be intruders, others realize, particularly in rural neighborhoods, that some burglars do not scare so easy. Many burglars are aware that alarms usually reset within two minutes, and the alarm either will not be heard by the neighbors or not be acted upon by them so burglars can do their dirty work through a couple minutes of noise. A home security monitoring system will give you the eyes and ears around the clock that you cannot do alone and will help protect your family and your assets as well.

Companies offering a home security monitoring system usually will help get your home security equipment hooked up, even if you have installed the system yourself. Your home alarm system can be set up for notification of break-in, fire or medical emergency and sometimes a fourth code is available that tells the alarm company that you need immediate police intervention.

Auto-Dialer Alerts Your Home Security Company

Once your alarm is installed, including heat and smoke detectors, a dialing system is integrated into the alarm panel. This home security device, the heart of your home security monitoring system is programmed to automatically call the call center to which you have subscribed.

Depending on the type of alarm signaled the call center will take pre-prescribed actions. For example, due to the potential for false alarms, once a break-in code is registered at the call center, the person monitoring your house will usually call back. If there is no answer or the person who does answer does not know the appropriate code, police are then called and dispatched.

The home security monitoring system can also be set up for fire and if a fire alarm is dialed in, typically the fire department will be notified before they attempt to contact the homeowner. A third alarm code can be triggered by pushing one or more buttons located throughout the home which signals a medical emergency and emergency medical serviced will be contacted.

There is a fourth code that is at your disposal for many home security monitoring systems, which is a personal danger code. Primarily used when you have the opportunity to intervene when a burglary is in progress or in the event of a forced entry, if activated the home security monitoring system is aware there is imminent personal danger and contacts the police without a callback to the home. The majority of these switches are primarily remote switches wired to the receivers throughout the home.

While it is unlikely that you will have to face more than one type of danger in your house, it is just as unlikely that you will make the right guess at which dangers are not about to happen. The best course of action is to make a plan for all of them in order to prevent as many as possible. Make certain that there are no combustible materials near the hot water heater and make sure the chimney is clear as well.

Remember to use good locks and to keep the stairs clear of clutter; also, cancel newspaper delivery before you go away on vacation and be sure that the basement drains are clear of debris before it rains. And once you are properly satisfied that you have done everything possible to make certain that no one can break into your home, no toxic gases or flood waters will gushed through your home and no fires will start, start making plans for what you need to do when any of these things actually happen.

Alert the Alarms

If something goes wrong, you want a warning. That means setting up home security equipment, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, or a home security device that suits other needs you may have. But what happens after one of those alarms goes off? Do you want an alarm to sound to warn the home’s occupants or scare off an intruder? Is it better to sound a silent alarm to you or emergency personnel?

Would you like to receive a phone call or text message when something goes wrong? Or would you like a company to monitor your alarms? This is the series of decisions you make when you arrange your home security monitoring. If someone is usually at home, you might choose to have at least some of the alarms sound at the house.

Certainly, if there is a danger like fire, flood or carbon monoxide, you want the home security monitoring to be done by the people who need to know it’s time to leave the house. If there’s an intruder, though, you might want someone who can safely call the police to be the home security monitoring person.

When most of the home’s occupants are away most of the day, the home security monitoring can be done by a company that can decide whether to call you or the authorities or both. There are certain security systems that are set up to automatically dial a specific phone number. The home security monitoring is done by the system itself. If a panic button is pushed then it will give you a call.

An alternate option is to have it call the fire department if both the temperature sensor and smoke detector go off. You can also have it call your neighbor if an outer motion detector sends out an alert. There are different choices for different types of security systems for home security monitoring. You would do well to keep that in mind when you choose your system.

Security is a comforting thing. Nothing is more accommodating in a home than security. But, even with alarms, how do you set up the perfect home security alarm system? The more important concept is not so much “security” or even “home” but the notion of “system”. Every home should have a distinct system to match the family’s needs, the area the home is located and finally how the home is designed.

Defining Your Needs

Every home in America has basic security needs, and the dangers of criminals breaking into your home is always a concern. Additional possible dangers are fire, carbon monoxide and radon gas that humans can’t detect by their senses alone. The question also arises what good is an home security device system if no one is home when there is a problem? How do lights and cameras fit in? First take a good look around the home, so that you can determine where the dangers are.

A good home security alarm system depends on covering the weak links. Smoke detectors belong in every area where fire can happen as well as in the places where people need to be warned. So a smoke detector outside (not inside where burnt toast can set it off) the kitchen, near each fireplace is an option. A home security safe for valuables in a discreet location in the house is another option to secure your belongings.

Some other places for security devices mentioned above are at the back door where the barbeque or fire-pit is, in the basement near the furnace and hot water heater and near the dryer. Also, some of the smoke detectors can include a carbon monoxide detector for fireplace and furnace gases. See how a home security alarm system basically works?

Radon detectors belong in the basement. Radon occurs naturally from the ground. Your home security alarm system needs the usual burglar alarms that will sound when a door or window is opened, and you might want motion detectors in areas unused at night. Basement windows, garage entrances and pet doors are more susceptible to a breach not detected by the usual burglar alarm.

Motion detectors in hallways can cover that blind spot. Speaking of blind spots, your home security alarm system needs to cover the areas hidden by the landscaping. Trees and bushes can hide intruders, and lights help in that situation as well. Do you need to know who’s at the door? Your home security alarm system can use a camera at the front and back doors – with lights so you can see.

The next decision is about the alarms themselves: should they be wired or wireless? When you have a wireless home security camera system you have more flexibility. Due to the fact that there are computerized elements give you the ability to program your home security alarm system to make a phone call to your work or your cell phone if there is a problem at your house. The bottom line is, decide the right setup for your home security alarm system and sleep well at night after that.
